报告摘要：Symmetric functions are used in many branches of mathematics and theoretical physics. In this short course we will present the vertex operator approach to classical symmetric functions. The following topics are covered:

1) Schur functions and vertex operator realization B(z)

2) Characters of S_n and the Murnaghan-Nakayama formula

3) Hall-Littlewood functions and vertex operator realization J(z)

4) Plethystic operators and vertex operators

5) characters of Hecke algebras

报告人简介：景乃桓，北卡罗来纳州立大学终身教授，主要从事量子群、顶点代数、无限维李代数、代数组合和量子计算等方面的研究，研究成果在包括Invent. Math.,PNAS, Duke Math. J, Adv. Math., Comm.Math.Phys., IMRN, Trans. AMS, J.Algebra等知名杂志上发表。
